2014 Winter Olympics: Now with In-Room Surveillance

I’m a big fan of the Winter Olympics and look forward to hopefully attending one someday. Seeing these tweets from journalists in Sochi, Russia, I’m glad that day is not today…

But, you say, how could President Putin have allowed such a thing to happen? Well, according to at least one report, he hasn’t — the foreign journalists in Sochi are lying to make Russia look bad.

And the Russian government knows this because… the surveillance cameras they installed in the hotels *are* working. Seriously. This is from the Wall Street Journal:

Dmitry Kozak, the deputy prime minister responsible for the Olympic preparations, seemed to reflect the view held among many Russian officials that some Western visitors are deliberately trying to sabotage Sochi’s big debut out of bias against Russia.

“We have surveillance video from the hotels that shows people turn on the shower, direct the nozzle at the wall and then leave the room for the whole day,” he said.

An aide then pulled a reporter away before Mr. Kozak could be questioned further on surveillance in hotel rooms.

Well, I feel better. Now can we please get to the curling already?!?
