When HOW TO HOST A GAME NIGHT was published nine months ago today, I had no idea how it would be received. To say I’m thrilled with the reaction would be a wild understatement.
In addition to the kind words from people like game designer Alan R. Moon (who called it “an incredibly fun read that’s chock-full of stories, memories, and experiences from gamers … the ultimate guide to gaming.”) and game publisher Justin Jacobson (who said, “Erik’s book is chock full of practical advice presented in a clear, fun way. … There is one sure-fire strategy to hosting the perfect get-together: Buy this book!”), the reviews on Amazon and other websites have been tremendously gratifying.
As of today, HOW TO HOST A GAME NIGHT has a 4.5-star rating on Amazon, which is amazing to me.
(Although I’m mentioning the reviews on Amazon, HOW TO HOST A GAME NIGHT is available anywhere you buy books, including amazing local bookstores like Reads & Company in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. To order from a local bookstore, click on IndieBound or Bookshop on this page.)
Some of my favorite comments are:
“I’ve been hosting and attending game nights for almost 20 years now, ever since I got myself back into gaming at the age of 30. We almost always had a great time, so I felt like I knew pretty much all there is to know about the subject. I was wrong.”
“When I saw the title, I wondered why a five page handout wouldn’t get the same job done. Still, as a board game enthusiast and owning a board game store for 35 years, I couldn’t pass on this book. The title, however, may be a little misleading. Yes, it covers everything one would need to consider when hosting a game night but it’s so much more. It reads like the author is paying homage to a hobby he truly loves.”
“I’ve hosted game nights in the past, but always felt unprepared and anxious over all the details that I may have not thought of when trying to make a memorable night. After reading, I feel like I am going to nail my next one! The witty humor in this book made me laugh along with the stories, and I can’t wait to get the new games I ordered that were mentioned in this book.”
Thank you to everyone who’s read HOW TO HOST A GAME NIGHT, and especially to those who took some time to post a review to Amazon, to share thoughts on social media, or to tell a friend about it. I appreciate it!
